PITT COUNTY, NC (WITN) — An East Carolina county is hosting a free pesticide collection day at homes and farms.
The Pitt County Extension Office, in conjunction with the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (NCDA&CS) Pesticide Disposal Assistance Program, is offering a pesticide collection day for residents on Wednesday, April 6th.
This amnesty collection event is held every two or three years, and almost all household and farm pesticide products are accepted, including banned and obsolete pesticides. Fertilizers, motor oil, bleach or ammonia should not be left for collection at this event. The Pitt County Extension Office expects to collect over 7,000 pounds of pesticides during the event.
The collection is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Pitt County Agriculture Center at 403 Government Circle in Greenville.
Contact the Pitt County Center NC Cooperative Extension Office at 252-902-1709 for tips on safely shipping pesticides and for pesticides with illegible or missing labels. The public should retain any portion of the label to assist in identifying the material to assist in disposal. Unknown materials cannot be accepted.
