Kenyan top chefs are committed to consuming organic food

Trufoods, in collaboration with top chefs from across the country, has been urging Kenyans to promote the consumption of organic food to promote a healthy lifestyle. This aligns with this year’s International Chef Day theme: Growing a Healthy Future.

Trufoods is the manufacturer of Zesta Jams, Zesta Sauces, Zesta Peanut Butter, Choco primo drinking chocolate, Kenylon Tomato Paste and Kenylon Canned Vegetables. The manufacturer gathered top chefs to celebrate their contribution to the Kenyan food industry on behalf of Kenyan chefs during this year’s International Chef Day, which falls on 20th Aprilth October 2022.

The chefs, recruited from top-notch hotels across the country, were challenged to create healthy food recipes and support healthy food for the future as they mark International Chefs Day.

Sagar Malde, Chief Executive Officer of Trufoods, said: “Consumers, not just in Kenya but around the world, are increasingly concerned about the quality of their food supply and not just more health conscious. As Trufoods, we have made a conscious choice to continue using real fruit and other primary products with no artificial additives to ensure we offer the safest and healthiest experience for the consumer.”

As well as using real tomatoes and fruits in its Zesta products, Trufoods also announced that it would switch some of its products from plastic to glass packaging, not only building a healthy future but also protecting the environment as glass is natural, sustainable and recyclable is . So far, the company has reduced the plastic content in its packaging by almost 30 percent and is aiming to increase this further by 2023.

Chef John Macharia, Executive Chef at Muthaiga Golf Club, said: “The reason for celebrating International Cooking Day is the sustainability, seasonality and providence of the produce we have in Kenya. That’s why we urge more chefs to embrace and sustain a healthy future. As chefs, we need to be aware of the changing market needs of consumers. Also, as a country, we need to go natural and do our compost rather than relying too heavily on fertilizer. This will help us obtain appropriate products that will enable the growth of a healthier and more productive population.”

In 2023, and in line with its mission to provide high quality and sustainable food products through improved efficiency, focused customer service and increased brand equity based on quality products, Trufoods will introduce new product developments. Notably, the company will introduce sugar-free products in the near future to drive the healthy lifestyle agenda.
