Lexington, SC 9/9/2022 (Paul Kirby) – The Lexington County Department of Solid Waste has two important events scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, September 10, 2022. One is a household hazardous waste levy and the other is a rain barrel and backyard compositing workshop.
Household hazardous waste drop-off is at the Solid Waste Collection Center at 1741 Calks Ferry Road, west of Lexington. It starts at 9:00 a.m. and lasts until 3:00 p.m. Materials that may be donated include acids, brake fluid, bug sprays, carburetor cleaner, electronics (limit 5), fertilizers and weed killers, paint and varnish-related chemicals such as thinners (maximum 8 gallons), pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, and other yard – and garden chemicals as well as old pool chemicals. This event is for households only and no businesses are allowed to donate materials. There will be sufficient staff to assist with sorting and dropping instructions.
The second event is a Rain Barrel and Backyard Compositing Workshop. Hurry if you’re interested because the registration deadline is today, September 9, 2022. The workshop begins at 9:00 am in the classroom at the Lexington County Landfill, located at 498 Landfill Lane, Lexington, SC . The physical location is in Edmund Township, Edmund Highway County. The workshop should end at 12 noon. Participants will learn how to build their own rain barrels and start composting in the garden. Both of these activities are eco-friendly practices that are also beneficial to the end user. As mentioned, pre-registration is required for this workshop, so do it now if you are interested in attending. This is going down online pre-registration.
