Weis Markets promotes Maria Rizzo to Advertising/Marketing VP

Maria Rizzo has been named vice president of advertising and marketing at Weis Markets, succeeding Ron Bonacci, who is retiring.

Rizzo (picture left) previously held the post of Marketing Manager. Bonacci, who served as vice president of advertising and marketing for more than five years, is scheduled to retire at the end of the year, Sunbury, Pennsylvania-based Weis Markets said yesterday.

As VP of Advertising and Marketing, Rizzo will oversee the management of Weis Markets’ advertising, marketing and public/community relations activities. The mid-Atlantic grocer said her primary responsibilities include customer relationship management, marketing and advertising, which spans print, digital and electronics.

Rizzo joined Weis Markets in January 2009 as Category Manager and then became Senior Manager for Private Label and Specialty Foods (including natural and organic food, beer and wine) in February 2013. She was promoted to Marketing Manager in April 2015. Before joining the supermarket chain, Rizzo was an analyst at private label marketing firm Daymon Worldwide.

Ron Bonacci-Weis Markets-closeup.jpgWith more than 30 years of food retail experience, Bonnaci (picture left) joined Weis Markets in July 2017 as VP of Advertising and Marketing, joining from United Supermarkets where he was Senior Director of Marketing.

Prior to that, Bonacci worked for Food City/K-VA-T Foods for more than 10 years, most recently as VP of Marketing. This was followed by almost two years as VP of Marketing at loyalty platform provider S&H Solutions and approximately 12.5 years at The Kroger Co. in various roles including store operations, category management, merchandising and loyalty marketing.

In total, Weis Markets operates 197 supermarkets in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, West Virginia and Virginia.
